(KMOV)-- Some drivers are concerned that the Adelaide overpass is about to collapse. The bridge carries a lot of truck traffic from I-70 over to Hall Street.
From below the bridge you can't see the potholes or open areas of rebar, but you can from above. News 4 hitched a ride with George Geyer, who wanted to know whether or not this bridge is safe not only for cars but for 40 ton trucks like his. News 4 took his concerns to the Missouri Department of Transportation, who said while the surface is rough, the structure is safe.
"We've had to allow only two lanes on that bridge, more because of the condition of the surface and how rough it is and the trucks that use it," said MoDOT engineer Ed Hassinger.
Late next month, MoDOT will begin a big rehab of the bridge, replacing some of the steel structure underneath, and painting it. They hope to get another 50 years out of it.
