Jupiter, Fl (KMOV) - Weather was much more cooperative on Day 4 of full-squad workouts here in Jupiter, though the temperature was still less than optimal.
The highlight of today's workouts was watching Cy Young Award Finalist Adam Wainwright throw live batting practice. What made it more interesting was who Wainwright pitched to , as Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, and Ryan Ludwick were all somehow put into the same hitting groups.
Wainwright started off on a great note when he struck out Pujols in his first at bat of the day, but then things got just a bit rocky. Matt Holliday took one of Wainwright's pitches out of the park on his second at bat, and Ryan Ludwick joined the fun just a short time later with a homerun of his own. Pujols eventually got in on the action, hitting a sharp line drive that would've been extra bases.
While it was clearly not Wainwright's best session of his life, the hits should not be anything to worry about. The righty's stuff was sharp as usual, he just got into trouble keeping the ball down in the zone.
I was able to catch up with Cardinals outfield prospect Jon Jay today for my next installment of "Prospect Profiles." I'll have that video on the site later this afternoon, so keep an eye out for that.
