The U.S. Census is recruiting thousands of people in the St. Louis area and Metro-East.
Here is information on the four local offices that are recruiting (use your mouse to scroll over each pin on the map and information will pop up): 2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/how-to-apply/local-office-map.php
Pay ranges from $11.50 an hour in Edwardsville, to $17/hour in St. Louis City. (The positions would last two to six weeks, with 20-40 hours of work per week).
Census is recruiting around 3,000 people in the St. Louis/Crestwood/St. Charles offices and about 3,900 in Edwardsville.
Keep in mind, the Census will hire fewer than they "recruit." The numbers above reflect the number of people they will ask to submit to a background check and a job skills test. Also, most of the positions involve gathering census data (door-to-door) from people who fail to mail in their forms. The number of people hired will depend on whether many people in the St. Louis area actually mail back Census surveys.
You can find application forms here: 2010.census.gov/2010censusjobs/application-material/index.php
