JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright never felt in synch last spring training, struggling to find the perfect delivery.
Then, after a mediocre start, Wainwright huddled with pitching coach Dave Duncan, tweaked his arm slot, and a Cy Young type of season was born.
He said he had decent numbers early in the season, but had to fight for them.
Now, Wainwright expects a season more like the one evidenced in the final 4 1/2 months of last season. He had 19 wins and finished third in the tightest Cy Young award voting in history.
Wainwright worked out this winter conscious of his delivery. He arrived for string training feeling better about his mechanics.
