Cardinals Spring Training: Prospect Profile - Daniel Descalso -

Cardinals Spring Training: Prospect Profile - Daniel Descalso's Brendan Marks has started a new feature down at Cardinals camp called "Prospect Profiles."  The goal of the new section is to give Cardinal fans a look at future Redbirds.

Jupiter, Fl (KMOV) - Drafted back in 2007 out of California-Davis, Daniel Descalso has been productive in his two full seasons as a professional.

After a great season for the Springfield Redbirds in 2009 (.323 in 288 ABs), Descalso was promoted to the Memphis Redbirds. He struggled, though,  to maintain the same level productivity, hitting just .253 in 150 ABs. He then received valuable experience playing for Team USA and in the Arizona Fall League.

According to, Descalso has good bat control and above average bat speed. "He has great plate discipline and uses the whole field. In the field, he is very smooth around the bag. He has really quick feet and the range to play second base. The footwork is superb, enabling him to make the double play turn with relative ease."

Descalso will most likely start the year at Memphis. If he is able to match his hot start of 2009, he very well may secure his spot as one of the organization’s top five prospects
