I'm just sitting here reading police reports and am amazed by what I see. So many people make it easy for crooks to become successful thieves. Let me list some of the crimes from the most recent police reports of just two cities in the metro area. See if you can spot a pattern.
Arnold, MO - $600 stolen from a wallet at the YMCA. It was in a locker that wasn't locked.
Chesterfield, MO - Stereo stolen from an unlocked vehicle.
Obviously, the similarities between these crimes is that the victims failed to lock up their stuff. It's easy to think that your gym or your neighborhood is so safe you don't need to lock your car door or locker. This list is proof that a careless attitude will eventually make you a crime victim.
By the way, one of the most common items stolen from cars is a GPS device. Where do they all go? A police officer told me that he believes as many as 40% of the GPS devices for sale on Craigslist were stolen.
Chesterfield, MO - GPS device stolen from an unlocked vehicle.
Chesterfield, MO - Jacket, keys & cell phone stolen from unlocked locker. Loss: $690
Chesterfield, MO - Silver stolen from dining area of residence. Thief entered through an open garage door. Loss: $1275
Chesterfield, MO - A purse was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in a garage. Thief entered through an open garage door.
