(KMOV) -- A man in his 20s is dead after a house fire in the Metro-East.

It happened around 8:00 a.m. in the 1100 block of State Street in East Carondelet, Illinois.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the man was trapped inside the home.

The fire chief tells News 4 that a woman and a small child were also in the home at the time of the fire. They suffered smoke inhalation and are expected to recover.

The fire started in the kitchen, but it is not clear at this time exactly what sparked the flames.
