(KMOV) -- The battle over illegal immigration came to St. Louis thanks to a controversial figure who wants to "slam shut" the U.S. border with Mexico.
Chris Simcox is the co-founder of the Minuteman Project, a group that privately patrols the U.S.-Mexico border. He said St. Louis may feel detatched from the problems of illegal immigration, but the area is affected.
Simcox was invited by Chris Brown, who is running to be a Missouri state representative. Simcox said he doesn't have an "us versus them" approach, and doesn't blame those coming across the border hoping for a better life, but if the borders were slammed shut, it would force Mexico to adapt civil rights and economic reforms.
