I am on a live shot in Maryland Heights, reporting on lane diversions and road closures as MoDot rebuilds the I-270 Dorsett Road interchange. I logged onto the computer, got into the newscast rundown, and prepared to write my story. I saw a script at the top of the rundown for a breaking news cut-in. It was the drowning of the child in Lincoln County. Two children in two days in horrible accidents. (The Payne family tragedy in the River Des Peres was just yesterday.) I couldn't believe my eyes. Diana Zoga is the reporter on the story up there. I don't envy her that. My story may not be breaking news or particularly exciting, but at least it isn't unbearably sad.
