(KMOV) -- A downtown St. Louis eyesore is set to come down.
The four-story sky bridge that connected the former St. Louis Centre mall and the Dillard's building is about to be history.
The demolition will temporarily impact downtown traffic.
Work on dismantling the Washington Avenue sky bridge has already begun. The glass roof is off and heavy equipment has been seen and heard inside in recent days.
It will all begin to come down on Friday. The city is closing off Washington Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets starting Thursday. This demolition could take up to four weeks.
Work is also getting started to turn the former St. Louis Centre mall into a parking garage with retail space on the bottom. The Dillard’s building will be turned into apartments and a hotel.
