MO passes bill designed to combat sex diseases

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri lawmakers have given final approval to a bill designed to help doctors combat sexually transmitted diseases.

House members sent the bill to the governor Friday despite concerns from some about a section that requires state health officials to develop a brochure about human papillomavirus vaccines and cervical cancer.

The brochures would be posted to the website for the Department of Health and Senior Services. Schools also could print the pamphlets and mail them to families.

Under the bill, physicians also would be allowed to prescribe medicine to the partners of those diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhea -- even if that partner is not being treated by the doctor.
