BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Two brothers have been given public defenders after making their first court appearance on charges that accuse them of fatally stabbing a southwestern Illinois teen perhaps during a dispute over a bike.

Nineteen-year-old Floyd Alexander and 17-year-old Michael Alexander are charged with first-degree murder and jailed on $1.5 million each.

They're accused of killing 18-year-old Jarrell Fountain of Swansea. Fountain's body was found in a yard Friday morning, and authorities believe he was stabbed sometime the previous day.

Neighbors have told police that a fight started Thursday over the bicycle.

The St. Clair County Public Defender's Office hasn't returned a message seeking comment Tuesday.
