ALTON - Members of the Woodlands Ladies Golf Club were witnesses to a rare event Wednesday morning.
And it wasn't a hole-in-one.
Barb Craig and Alice Russell, both 78, had just hopped back into their golf cart after teeing off on the fourth hole about 9 a.m. Craig had difficulty turning the steering wheel, and the cart tumbled over a small cliff and into a 10-foot ravine, coming to rest in the shallow creek below.
"I've been here for a long time, and I've never seen anything like this," said Randy Houston, Woodlands Golf Club's assistant manager. "I play out here, and I've never even come close to anything like that. I don't know how it happened."
Russell, who was thrown from the cart, wasn't sure what happened, either, but had a theory.
