The No. 10 ranked Missouri Tiger Softball team finished their home part of the regular schedule season with a win over the Baylor Bears, 11-6. The Tigers are 41-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big 12. Mizzou’s regular season home record is 26-3.
During the bottom of the first inning, the Tigers started their way to the top. Rhea Taylor’s hitting streak went from 15 to 16 in the first inning, when she started off with a single hit, and stole a base. Catherine Lee walked and Jenna Marston helped to lead the bases because a pitch hit her. There were no outs at this point of the game. Ashley Fleming hit a single which allow Taylor to come in to score, making the score 1-0. After Nicole Hudson’s intentional walk, Shana White had a hit right in the center that brought Lee to home plate.
Baylor brought the game to a tie in the third inning with a double, a RBI single, and then a throwing error. The score was 2-2.
During the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers were able to gain their lead back. Marston got a single hit to the center, and Fleming had a walk. Hudson hit a single, two batters later, that resulted in a score. White had a groundout that plated Fleming for her second RBI of the game.
Baylor got a run at the top of the fourth and made the Tigers have a slight lead at 4-3. Missouri then took over the game at the bottom of the inning, which was emphasized by two run home runs. Catherine Lee had the first home run of the inning and it allowed Gina Schneider to score too.After Marston’s double, Fleming hit her eight homer of the season, and it put the Tigers for a big lead at 8-3.
The Tigers scored three more times in the fifth inning and pushed the lead to 11-4. Marston’s third hit of the day allowed a two-run single in which both Taylor and Abby Vock scored. Because of a wild pitch, Megan Christopher scored the third run in the inning.
Baylor made the score 11-6 with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Marston ended the game 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. With a pair of runs and three RBI, Fleming was 1-for-3. Lee was 1-for-2, scoring twice and brought home two.
