(KMOV)-- An arrest has been made in the murder of Washington Park Mayor John Thornton.
Illinois State Police confirmed that Aaron Jackson, 34, was arrested at the Relax Inn in Alorton around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Last month, Jackson was charged with 1st degree murder. Thornton was killed in a park on April 1st.
Illinois State Police told News 4 that a tip lead them to Jackson. Jackson was initially questioned as a person of interest in the murder but investigators didn't have enough information to charge him.
Jackson is being held at the Alorton jail before being transferred over to the state police. Bond has been set at $1 million. No other details has been released at this time. Be sure to stay with KMOV.com.
