Snakes in a school? Metro-East district dealing with a snake problem

DUPO, Ill. (KMOV) -- A Metro-East school district says its dealing with a snake problem.

Officials said chicken snakes were discovered at Dupo High School and grade school.

One was found inside the high school last month. Two more were caught in the grade school.

News Four went to Dupo and asked why parents were not notified.

“If we found a news or a large inhabitant of them then that would be a different story and we would get our parents invovled,” said Dupo School Superintendent Terry Miltz.

Miltz says they deal with varmin on a regular basis. Since they don’t send out notes for mice, he didn’t feel it necessary to send out a note for the non-venomous snakes.
