Summer drought may benefit area for when Isaacs remnants reach St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The drought experienced in the St. Louis area this summer may actually be beneficial for when the remnants of Hurricane Isaac reach the area this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the area could have flash flooding from the initial rain but the topsoil will eventually soften to minimize it.

Mark Fuchs, with the NWS, tells News 4 that what is expected to come this weekend is similar to the rain dumped on St. Louis from Hurricane Gustav which was slower moving.

“Areas that don’t particularly drain as well in cities might have to be on the look-out for the potential of some urban flooding this weekend,” Fuchs added.
