ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Two men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and carjacking a couple along the St. Louis riverfront early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to the riverfront near the Poplar Street Bridge around 12:45 a.m. after one of the victims called for help.
The victims, a man and woman, told police they were sitting on the hood of their car “watching the river” when two men pulled up in a green truck, announced a robbery and started shooting. One of the two suspects then jumped into the victims' vehicle, a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix, and took off.
According to reports, the 41-year-old male victim suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder and right hand. He is undergoing treatment and is exptect to recover. The female victim was not injured.
Later, police located a maroon Pontiac in Brooklyn, Illinois. They followed the vehicle to a location in East St. Louis and also found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle.
Two men at the East St. Louis location were taken into custody. Police said they are believed to be the men responsible for the assault. There’s no word on any charges for either suspect.
Police did not say if they recovered a gun at the arrest scene. Officers said they combed the riverfront scene for evidence, but did not find any bullet casings.
The incident is still under investigation.
