CARLINVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – Two brothers will spend at least 17 years in prison after they pleaded guilty to shooting a man to death in Macoupin County 2011.
Cody McGuire, 20, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. His brother, 20-year-old David McGuire, entered a guilty plea of second-degree murder and aggravated battery.
“Jason Walton did not deserve to die that day by the hands of these two men,” said state’s attorney Jennifer Watson. “But working with the family, law enforcement, and all those affected by his death, today’s action allows.”
A judge sentenced Cody McGuire to 33 years in prison for the offense and will be required to serve the whole sentence.
David McGuire was sentenced to 17 year in prison.
