ROLLA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police believe a 22-year-old Rolla man strangled his mother to death following an argument in their home.
Around 8 a.m. on Monday, officials said a concerned co-worker called the Rolla Police Department when the suspect's mother, Chong Cross, 60, did not show up for work. Officers responded to the home in the 1700 block of Forum Drive to investigate.
When officers arrived, they questioned the victim’s son, Daniel Cross, who claimed his mother was out of town.
Officers became suspicious of the son’s behavior and responses and entered the residence to ensure the well-being of Chong. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered the body of Chong Cross, who was deceased.
Police then secured the scene and Mr. Cross was detained.
Following a joint investigation by the Rolla Police Department’s Division of Criminal Investigation and the Phelps County Coroner’s Office, Mr. Cross was determined to have been responsible for the death of his mother during an argument.
Police believe the cause of death to be manual strangulation and an autopsy has been scheduled.
The investigation is on-going, but police believe no one else was involved.
Charges have not yet been issued against Daniel Cross. He was arrested on Tuesday and is being held in the Phelps County Jail. Authorities are seeking 2nd degree murder charges against him.
