O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Missouri politician who was campaigning door to door in O'Fallon on Wednesday is being called a hero after he helped save a young boy's life.
Rod Hoffman, a candidate for the 107th district in the Missouri House, was out campaigning when he heard something disheartening.
“When I got next door and thought I heard a scream and I rang the doorbell and it was a scream,” Hoffman said.
Moments later a woman came running from the side of the house and asked Hoffman if he knew CPR. “I do,” he said. The woman went on to explain her 2-year-old son was found at the bottom of a swimming pool.
By the time Hoffman got to the back of the home, the father had pulled the young boy from the pool and started CPR, but was not successful. That’s when Hoffman stepped in and performed the procedure “the best he could remember.” He explained that as he worked on the boy, his color started coming back.
Hoffman was eventually able to revive the boy. Emergency crews showed up, took the boy’s vital signs and rushed him to the hospital. He was released on Thursday and is doing well at home.
