EDWARDSVILLE (KMOV.com) -- School has started in the Edwardsville School District even though the teachers do not have a contract.
Teachers authorized going on strike which could start as early asa Aug. 23. The two sides are negotiating over pensions, pay freezes, and school class sizes.
Parents have been asking both sides to keep talking and avoid a strike.
"I think that's what the parents have been focused on this whole time. Find middle ground, get back to the bargainning table and get this done so our kids can stay in school," said parent Vince Ojeda.
The superintendent has said he would not go back to the bargainning table, but News 4 is being told both sides were still meeting for talks.
