( -- State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced on Monday that he has returned $235,000 in unclaimed property to a woman in the Kansas City area, $169,000 to a St. Louis area buisness and $137,000 to a company doing business throughout Missouri.

These are the 13th, 14th and 15th accounts worth more than $100,000 to be returned since January. As always there was no charge for the returns, and the identities of the recipients are being withheld for privacy reasons.

“We are getting millions of dollars of Unclaimed Property out the door each month in amounts as small as $1 and sometimes well over $1 million,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “Since I took office, we have put $93 million back into the economy, and more is going out each week. This is money we need in our economy now.”

The $235,000 return to the Kansas City woman was made up of 26 individual securities accounts. The $169,000 return to the St. Louis business was made up of 23 individual accounts, including escrow funds and uncashed checks. The $137,000 return was made up of 11 separate accounts, including payroll and uncashed checks.

Thirty-eight accounts worth more than $100,000 each remain to be returned. The geographic breakdown is: 15 in St. Louis County; 12 in Jackson County; three in St. Louis City; two in Boone County; and one each in Buchanan, Butler, Camden, Cole, Franklin and Jasper counties.
Since January 2009, Treasurer Zweifel has returned $93 million to more than 285,000 account holders.
