MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) -- The entity that manages all the U.S. military's shipping and transportation, which is based at southwestern Illinois' Scott Air Force Base, has a new commander.
Gen. William Fraser III took over the U.S. Transportation Command on Friday from retiring Gen. Duncan McNabb during a ceremony at the installation near Mascoutah (muh-SKOO'-tuh). Defense Secretary Leon Panetta attended.
McNabb had held the post since September 2008.
Fraser is a 37-year Air Force veteran who has headed the Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He also has served as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was an Air Force vice chief.
A former military pilot, McNabb previously held various planning and logistical assignments in his 37-year career.
