Scott air base command welcomes new leader

MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) -- The entity that manages all the U.S. military's shipping and transportation, which is based at southwestern Illinois' Scott Air Force Base, is getting a new commander.
Gen. William Fraser III will take over the U.S. Transportation Command from Gen. Duncan McNabb during a ceremony planned for Friday at the installation near Mascoutah. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is expected to attend.
McNabb had held the post since September 2008.
Fraser has headed the Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He also has served as assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was an Air Force vice chief.
A former military pilot, McNabb previously held various planning and logistical assignments in his 37-year career.
