(KMOV.com) -- The Missouri and Illinois departments of transportation will close a section of Interstate 64 and Martin Luther King Bridge downtown October 14th-17th for ongoing repair work.
MoDOT will close all lanes of eastbound I-64 between Jefferson and the Poplar Street Bridge in the city of St. Louis beginning one hour after the Cardinal’s league championship game ends Friday, October 14. The closure is expected to end by 5 a.m. Monday, October 17.
To detour around the closure, drivers can go south on Jefferson to I-44 eastbound to I-55 northbound into Illinois. Motorists should use I-70, I-44 and I-55 to access events downtown.
MoDOT will also close the two left lanes of Poplar Street Bridge in both directions at the same time.
IDOT will close the Martin Luther King Bridge to all traffic beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, weather permitting. Crews will seal the bridge driving surface and complete several repairs to the bridge during the closure. Drivers should use the McKinley Bridge, Eads Bridge, I-270 or Jefferson Barracks Bridge as detours and allow additional time to travel through the area. The Martin Luther King Bridge will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 17.
MoDOT and IDOT encourages commuters to plan ahead for ways to avoid work zones. For more information, call 1-888-ASK-MODOT or visit their website.
