It will be Carpenter’s first start since his complete game shutout against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 of the NLDS to advance the Cardinals into the NLCS.
Before Game 1 of the NLCS, Brewers pitcher
Zack Greinke called Carpenter a ‘phony’, but that is behind the Cardinals ace as he prepares to pitch for Game 3.
“It’s going to be an exciting game,” Carpenter said. “I’m going to go out there and do the best I can and have a lot of fun.”
Carpenter has also put behind his dominating pitching performance against the Philadelphia Phillies in his last outing.
“You got to take it one start at a time, good or bad,” Carpenter said.
In his previous start before the NLDS Game 5 complete game shutout, Carpenter had allowed four runs and walked three batters in three innings during Game 2.
Carpenter will be opposed by Brewers ace Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo was dominant in two starts against the Arizona Diamonbacks in the NLDS. He is 1-0 and has a 1.29 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched this postseason.
