(KMOV.com) -- One person was killed in a serious accident involving a semi-truck and a pick-up truck near the ConnocoPhillips Refinery in Hartford, Illinois.
The accident happened around 6:35 Tuesday morning on Hawthorne Avenue. According to police, a semi was pulling into the Connoco Phillips Refinery along when the pick-up truck crashed into the semi's trailer.
The driver of the pick-up truck, Tommy Underwood, 61, had to be extricated from the wreckage. He was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Underwood was the only person in the pick-up truck.
Police did not say if the driver of the semi was injured in the accident.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine Underwood's exact cause of death. Routine toxicology studies for the presence of alcohol will be performed as well.
Underwood's funeral arrangement are pending at this time.
