Pujols, Cardinals set records with dominating LCS performance

(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals will head back home after a dominating 12-3 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of the NLCS.

The Cardinals hammered out an LCS team record 17 hits on their way to tying an LCS team record of scoring 12 runs in a game.  The last time the Cardinals scored 12 runs in an LCS game was 1985.

First baseman Albert Pujols was 4-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs scored including a first inning home run.  Pujols is the first Cardinals player since 1985 to have four hits in an LCS game.  He also had three doubles in the game which tied an LCS record.  It was the second time in a single game this postseason that Pujols had three doubles.
Pujols‘ first inning home run was his ninth NLCS home run which broke a tie with Steve Garvey. 

Pujols‘ five RBIs also set an LCS team record for most runs batted in in a single game.

The Cardinals will play next against the Brewers at Busch Stadium on Wednesday at 7:05 CT.
