(BaseballStL) -- Who knew the St. Louis Cardinals would win 90 games and make it to the NLCS without ace pitcher Adam Wainwright this season? If you ask Tony La Russa, he would say that every team has adversity throughout the season season whether it be injuries or slumps.
“Nobody goes through a season where everything falls in place,” La Russa said. “How you separate yourself as a club is to understand it’s (injuries) going to happen and you concentrate on the guys playing.”
Tony La Russa says the team caught a break with the help of Kyle McClellan and a healthy Kyle Lohse to fill part of the void left when Wainwright had season-ending surgery during Spring Training.
“You can’t make it (injuries) an excuse because nobody cares,” La Russa added.
