(KMOV) - After only 5 months as the East St. Louis Police Chief, Ranadore Foggs, is resigning.
He says he wants to hire more officers to fight crime and isn't able to do so. Chief Foggs joined the department right after a third of its employees were let go. City officials are shocked by his desicion.
Foggs, 52 was sworn in as chief in May. He said he was ready for the challenge and wanted to turn the city around.
Mayor Alvin Parks says he is disappointed by his decision and wishes him well. Parks and Foggs had philosophical differences as far as the direction of the police department.
Mayor Parks says he hopes to announce the new chief by Friday. He also says there are both internal and external candidates.
