ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Your vehicle is getting older every day, but the St. Louis County assessor says it is getting more valuable, so the county plans to raise your personal property taxes.

If you drive a newer Ford F-150 or several kinds of higher-end SUVs, you’re not going to be happy when your tax bill comes in a few weeks.

Assessor Jake Zimmerman says some used SUVs and pickups are selling for more than they did last year.

John Sinclair with Dave Sinclair Ford says the value on one to five-year-old Tahoes, Sequoias and F150 pickups have risen for several reasons. The drop in gas prices has renewed interest and demand for pickups and SUVs.

The increase in taxes on SUVs is only expected to be $10 to $20.

If your vehicle has high miles or other factors lowering its value, you can call the assessor’s office to get help requesting a lower assessed value.
