Judge sentences Kankakee man in drug, gun case

URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- A federal judge has sentenced a Kankakee man convicted of gun and drug charges to more than 42 years in prison.

A Justice Department news release says Chief U.S. District Judge Michael McCuskey made it clear that one reason for the lengthy sentence was that Jeffery Dickerson had threatened and attempted to intimidate a witness before the trial.

McCuskey also noted the weapons that the 41-year-old Dickerson had were machine guns -- weapons he used as part of his drug trafficking operation.

Dickerson was found guilty by a jury in Urbana in June and sentenced on Thursday.
