(BaseballStL) -- The Busch Stadium squirrel reappeared at the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies during Game 4 on Wednesday.
The squirrel appeared on the third baseline in the outfield during the Cardinals Game 3 loss and decided to steal the attention during second baseman Skip Schumaker’s plate appearance in the fifth inning of Game 4.
The squirrel dashed in front of home plate as Roy Oswalt was throwing a pitch. Oswalt and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wanted the pitch, which happened to be a ball, to not count, but the call was upheld.
For Cardinals fans, hopefully the squirrel does not symbolize something deeper such as the Chicago Cubs’ black cat curse. The Cubs missed the playoffs in 1969 after having an 8.5 game lead late in the season until fans released a black cat onto the field which ran through the Cubs dugout.
