WHEATON, Ill. (AP) -- A suburban Chicago man who pleaded guilty to killing his pregnant wife in front of her 4-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 100 years in prison.
DuPage County prosecutors said Wednesday that Judge Kathryn Creswell sentenced Eric Gilford,32, of Downers Grove. Gilford pleaded guilty in June to first-degree murder and murder of an unborn child. Gilford was accused of stabbing 35-year-old Kristine Gilford 17 times in 2010.
Authorities say that before she died Kristine Gilford told police responding to her apartment that her husband stabbed her. Eric Gilford also was identified by the victim's 4-year-old daughter, who was found covered with her mother's blood.
The former U.S. Navy recruiter was arrested Aug. 5 at a homeless shelter in Jackson, Wyo., where he'd fled.
