As the mother of an 8-week-old baby, it's a given that I'm not getting much sleep these days. My baby boy, Jude, is not yet sleeping through the night. Now, I knew going into this whole parenting thing that sleep was going to become an often-sought, seldom-attained commodity. But never in my life have I been as tired as I have been the last couple of weeks. Not when I was in college, staying up all night cramming for finals, not when I worked the 4:00 a.m. shift here at the station, not even when I volunteered at overnight youth lock-ins at my church, was I as exhausted as I am right now. Seriously...it feels like there is not enough caffeine in the world to keep me going today. Maybe they could just feed it to me intravenously.
My best friend has a baby boy that is just 12 hours younger than my little Jude. My friend told me that her little guy has started sleeping through the night. Oh how I envy her! Jude will last 5 hours at the most before waking up to eat. After he eats, he goes right back to sleep (which is great), and then wakes up in about 3 hours to eat again. Last night he ate at 9:00, went to bed, and woke up to eat at 1:30 a.m. So that's 4 ½ hours. I was excited about him lasting more than 3 hours at night, until I heard that my friend's baby is going nine hours. Nine hours! I am praying that a nine hour night comes soon for Jude, because this whole a-couple-hours-here-and-a-couple-hours-there routine is killing my husband and me. Of course one of my co-workers informed me that as a parent, you never really get any good sleep until the kids are out of the house. If that's the case, I've got a long way to go. Yikes!
I know you other moms have been through this. Is there any trick to getting my boy to sleep longer? I'm desperate...I'll try just about anything (as long as it's safe of course!). Feel free to comment below and leave me your advice.
On a side note, my family and I had a great Thanksgiving and I hope you all did too! Here are some pictures of Jude at his first Santa Claus parade. Even though he slept through the whole thing, I know he enjoyed it!
