One step forward, three steps back -

One step forward, three steps back

For those of you keeping track at home, here is a quick update on the sleep situation. For those of you new to the Mommy Diaries, my husband and I are trying desperately to get our 3 ½ month-old son Jude to sleep through the night, and that's where our story picks up.

So...we had a small victory Saturday night. When my husband's alarm went off at 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, it hit me. I realized that I had not heard from Jude all night. My heart started racing, I ran in to check on him, and there he was, sleeping peacefully. He didn't wake-up until 6:30 a.m. That was about 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. My husband and I quietly celebrated and patted ourselves on the back. Finally, we had turned a corner. Jude was now sleeping through the night. Wrong!

Sunday night into Monday morning, he woke up twice. He hasn't done that in a long time. It was payback. So Monday night, my husband and I tried to duplicate everything we did Saturday night (the night that he slept all night). I went through the exact same process. He woke up around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Tuesday night into this morning, it was the same. Jude woke up to eat around 4:00 a.m. After a brief glimmer of hope, we are back at square one.

I have come to a conclusion regarding this sleep situation. A wise parent gave me this advice: enjoy every moment, even these pre-dawn feedings, while they last. I will never get back this time with my son. Before I know it, Jude's baby days will be long gone and he'll be all grown up. I'm told it goes by in the blink of an eye. Soon, he will not want to be held, and cuddled and rocked back to sleep. So, I'm done stressing it, I'm going to fight through this sleepless time and try to savor every moment with my precious little boy. If he happens to sleep through the night, though, I won't be disappointed. :)

Speaking of growing's a video of Jude. He's big enough and holds his head up well enough now to sit in his excer-saucer. He loves it. Here he is playing in it.
