I have been waiting and waiting to share this exciting piece of news with you. I guess I've been afraid to talk about it because I didn't want to jinx it. I mean, this has been the topic of the majority of my blogs and has been something I have been working at for quite some time. I just didn't want to speak too soon. Alright, I'll tell you...
My baby boy is finally sleeping through the night! Cue the Hallelujah Chorus!
For two weeks now, my 5-month son Jude has made it through the night without getting up. To be fair, there were two nights that he struggled and fussed a few times, but then went back to sleep. I blame those instances on his teething. As a whole though, Jude now sleeps from 8:30 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. every day. I was beginning to think that I would never again experience a solid 7 hours of sleep, but now, my dear friend sleep and I have been reunited, and it feels so good!
I think there were several things that made this glorious event take place.
1. As I mentioned in a previous blog, I put Jude on a pre-dawn feeding detox program, thanks to fellow mommy Lisa Manzo. Following Lisa's advice, my husband and I were able to gradually break Jude of his middle of the night feeding habit. Also, my aunt (who's a nurse and knows soooo much about this stuff!) helped us figure out a better feeding plan for Jude, that way if he wakes up in the middle of the night, I know that he is not hungry because he has gotten all the food that he needs during the day.
2. This, I think, has been the biggest contributor to the all-night sleeping...Jude sleeps on his tummy now. I know, I know, babies are supposed to sleep on their backs. Believe me, I am a rule follower, so the fact that Jude sleeps on his tummy bothered me at first, but there is honestly nothing I can do about it. I put him to sleep on his back every night and he is so good at rolling over now that it takes just 2 seconds before the kid is on his tummy with his little bottom in the air. It's so cute! And he is so much more comfortable now, I think that's made it easier for him to sleep all night.
So, it seems like my no-sleep saga has come to an end, at least until we have another baby...which won't be for awhile!
