I caught this show at the Robert Orpheum theatre last night. If you're not familiar with it, its a very funny celebration of women and "the change." Four women meet in Bloomingdales in NYC at the lingerie sale table. One is a big city professional, one a soap star, one an Iowa housewife and lastly an earth mother/hippie.
They spend the day together milling throughout the store and sharing with each other about their experiences at this stage of life. Included in the discussion? Hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges and a few other things which I probably shouldn't write about here.
Hit songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s, most of which I know well, have been re-written into hysterical parodies. Stayin Alive became Stayin Awake, My Guy became My Thighs and The Lion Sleeps Tonight switches to My Husband Sleeps Tonight (In the guest room or on the sofa). You just have to hear them for yourself, very funny stuff.
As you might imagine, the majority of the audience was made up of women over age 40 but the younger women and men laughed just as hard! This would be a great show to make a girls night out of, grab your mom and aunts and go, you won't be disappointed. The show plays through November 23rd. menopausethemusical.com
