I'll be completely honest with you here, I've never seen an opera. I was always afraid I would not be able to understand what was going on. I'm all about musicals, but those are in English! I was happy to learn that Opera Theatre of Saint Louis (OTSL) seems a lot more approachable. I'm going to have to go now!
OTSL is a national company, known for it's spring festival of productions showcasing the best young singers in America, accompanied by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra.
The operas are easy to understand - everything is sung in English and the text is projected on screens at the sides of the stage. The small size and stage of the Loretto-Hilton Center bring the audience close to the action. Audiences picnic in the gardens surrounding the theater before each performance and return after the show to mingle with the artists.
OTSL has several events that cater to young professionals. First up is the Wine & Beer Tasting this Friday February 6th. From 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. guests will gather in the rehearsal halls of the Sally S. Levy Opera Center to taste more than 40 wines and specialty beers and enjoy an array of hors d'oeuvres. Guests will also have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items including rare vintages, wine and beer-related gifts, exclusive fine dining packages, jewelry and more. Tickets are $75 and up. Call (314) 963-4223 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

The next event is La bohème Bash on June 4th and June 6th. This is fun night of food, drinks, networking, and opera! Dinner and drinks will begin at 6:15pm under the tent outside the Loretto-Hilton Center. You will have an opportunity to meet artists from Opera Theatre's 2009 season. After dinner, enjoy La bohème, one of the most beloved operas ever written. This is a portrait of Bohemian life in Paris and has lured whole generations into Opera. The cost is $35 for dinner and 1 ticket to the performance. Please call (314) 963-4223 to reserve your space.
