Art Saint Louis exists as a visual arts organization that creates exhibition, support and growth opportunities for emerging and established contemporary artists. For over 22 years, they have worked to cultivate an appreciation for the role that visual artists play in our community. They do this by holding six to eight juried shows in their gallery annually, curating off-site exhibitions in businesses around the St. Louis area, offering educational programs to artists and the community at large, collaborating with numerous community partners and executing an in-school educational program focused on cultural diversity called VOICES.
Each gallery exhibition is juried by a new, esteemed juror or group of jurors from the St. Louis community. There are receptions for each exhibition and the gallery & receptions are free & open to the community.
This year Art Saint Louis has taken their artists' work street-level to a new home at 555 Washington Avenue. They expanded their educational programs with the additional space. For example, this fall will mark the beginning of the annual Working Artist Survivor Series which will be a series of workshops that address topics and issues vital to the professional development of artists in the area. They have also been able to host additional collaborative events in the gallery. For example, this past August they partnered with the Young Literati to host author Harper Barnes for a discussion and book signing.
