Founded in 1881, the Kemper Art Museum is the oldest art museum west of the Mississippi. The Museum expanded and opened a new building, designed by Pritzker-prize winning architect Fumihiko Maki in fall 2006. Featuring cutting-edge special exhibitions, exceptional educational resources, and an outstanding collection of 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century European and American art, the Kemper is a stimulating and unique site to experience art, culture, and education in St. Louis, located on Washington University's Danforth campus near Forest Park at the corner of Skinker & Forsyth Blvds.

The museum has an outstanding modern and contemporary art collections, and significant special exhibitions as well including this summer's MFA 2009 Thesis Exhibition and an installation by prominent contemporary artist Rirkrit
Tiravanija called Chew the Fat. It's a film installation in which Tiravanija interviews twelve international artists of his generation who rose to prominence in the 1990s. Here's the trailer.

Young professionals are encouraged to attend opening parties and other special programs, such as this Friday's free screening of Zidane at 6 pm (details here: http://kemperartmuseum.wustl.edu/films.html). Anyone who enjoys art, soccer (Zidane is notorious for his World Cup head-butt), or music (features a haunting score by Mogwai) will find something to enjoy about this captivating film.
