GRANITE CITY, Il (KMOV.com) -- The mother of a toddler beaten to death in Granite City cried out Tuesday night for an end to child abuse.
Earlier on Tuesday John Holmon, the mother’s boyfriend, was charged with murdering Dasean Rusher. The boy was found lifeless by his grandmother Monday. He had been left in the care of Holmon.
“He didn’t deserve that,” said Dollie Rusher, the boy’s mother. “No family deserves to feel this way, especially a mother.”
She was surrounded by family and friends Tuesday night as they remembered “Bug” as they called little Dasean. Rusher made a sign calling for an end to child abuse. She wanted to speak to News 4 to get that message out. She tearfully made her plea.
“Stop child abuse,” Rusher said. “Stop it.”
Holmon is being held without bond. Granite City investigators said “a monster is off the streets.”
