MARYLAND HEIGHTS (KMOV.com) -- A group of five veterans cycling across the country stopped in Maryland Heights on Tuesday.
They are making the journey from Washington state to Washington D.C. for the "Long Road Home Project." It was started to increase awareness of the challenges veterans face when they return home.
Colleen Bushnell says she is riding in support of Laveena Johnson who was killed under suspicious circumstances in Iraq.
"I've shared her story from Washington state to here in St. Louis," Bushnell said. "I'll continue to share her story all the way to the East Coast until we help raise awareness and get some resolution on what happened to her."
The veterans will leave on Wednesday to continue their 90-day journey to Washington D.C.
