City plans further action against aggressive panhandlers

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) -- St. Louis city officials are planning to take additional action against aggressive panhandlers begging for money on highway exit ramps.

Right now, signs are posted throughout the city that prohibit aggressive begging however some drivers say the signs aren’t enough.

“It gets us out of the problem of having people being uncomfortable and feeling that they are practically being assaulted,” Bill Siedhoff, City of St. Louis official, said. He also says violators could be jailed.

Two well-known advocates for the homeless, St. Patrick Center and Better Family Life, agree with police that panhandling on the sidewalk or an exit ramp needs to be stopped.
