COLUMBIA, Mo. (Missouri Football App) -- The Missouri Tigers were members of the Big 12 Conference for 16 years and now, as new members of the Southeastern Conference, are ready to make history against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday evening. This will be Mizzou’s first football game against an SEC opponent after officially joining the conference this past summer.
School officials expect fans to fill the stands at Faurot Field. They're anticpating around 70,000 fans to attend the game. Mizzou fans everywhere are pumped to see their Tigers face-off against one of the SEC’s elite football schools. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 7th in Associated Press poll and USA Today. They’re coming off a first week victory against Buffalo with the final score of 45-23.
Mizzou took care of business in its first game of the season. The Tigers beat Southeastern Louisiana 62-10. This week’s game is expected to be a bit more challenging against a Georgia team that’s won 24 games over the past 3 seasons.
The hype on campus is something out of a Hollywood movie. Students wearing black and gold are seen all over campus. People have been chatting about how awesome Saturday will be and how crazy the atmosphere is going to get. There has been tents set up for tailgaters since last weekend.
Many students are comparing the hype of this game against Georgia to the kind of excitement surrounding the 2010 Homecoming Game against Oklahoma. Mizzou ended up stunning the #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooner squad and winning the game 36-27.
-Mizzou junior defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson against Georgia. Richardson said the Bulldogs play “old-man football”. There’s been a ton of negative press about Richardson’s comments around campus.
-Mizzou’s offense against an elite SEC defense. This will be a true test for Mizzou to see how their high-powered offense can matchup up against an SEC defense. The SEC is known for their fast and athletic defense.
Opposing players to watch:
-Junior quarterback Aaron Murray: entering third season as starting quarterback. Threw for 3 TD’s last week.
-Freshman running back Todd Gurley: rushed for 100 yards on 8 touches and scored twice last week
