UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV) -- Street cars are now set to return to St Louis after the federal government cleared funding for a new Delmar Loop Trolley.
Twenty-five million dollars from the Federal Transit Administration was awarded for the Loop Trolley which will cover two miles from Forest Park to University City.
Developer Joe Edwards, owner of Blueberry Hill, has been a long supporter of the trolley. He tells News 4 the new trolley will be a big boost to development in The Loop.
Work is expected to start this fall with the streetcars rolling in spring 2014.
Some opponents say the trolley is a poor use of federal money, and question its financial viability.
The trolley will run on a 2.2-mile line from the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park to the University Library.
