COLLINSVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that daytime lane closures will be encountered on the Martin Luther King Bridge, beginning Monday, September 10, 2012.
The lane closures are needed to perform bridge inspections. Weather permitting, the lane closures will take place as follows:
From Monday, September 10 to Friday, September 14, the MLK Bridge will be closed in the westbound direction, from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. daily. The westbound lane will be re-opened to traffic each day at 6:00 p.m. The eastbound lanes will remain open during this work. Westbound motorists will need to utilize alternative routes during these times. On Monday, September 17, both eastbound lanes on the MLK Bridge will be closed, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The eastbound lanes will be re-opened to traffic at 3:00 p.m. The westbound lane will remain open during this work. Eastbound motorists will need to utilize alternative routes during this time.
From Tuesday, September 18 to Friday, September 21, the right lane on eastbound MLK Bridge will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. The eastbound left lane and the westbound lane will remain open during this work, and all lanes will be re-opened to traffic daily at 3:00 p.m. Traffic control devices will be utilized during these lane closures, to assist motorists making their way through the work zone. The Department asks that all motorists be patient, reduce speed, and use additional caution when traveling near and throughout this work zone.
