EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois man is facing federal charges that accuse him of contributing to a woman’s heroin death.
A grand jury indicted Brian Petty, 33, of Caseyville on one count of drug-induced homicide.
Petty is accused of providing and injecting the heroin authorities say killed Gail Trexler, 49, of Maryville last January. Trexler’s body was found in her apartment.
A woman who answered the telephone Tuesday at a home listing for Petty identified herself as his mother and said her son’s innocence will come out in court. Declining to give her name, she said Petty has been in voluntary rehab for the past month and turned himself in Sunday to Madison County authorities.
Petty is jailed on $150,000 bond.
The charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
