NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Isaac apparently created just the right mood for Charles Cowherd to pop the question to his girlfriend, Michelle Gay.
"We got engaged last night in the hurricane!" Gay gushed. "I walked in and he had lit all of the candles we had gotten for the hurricane and was kneeling in the middle of the kitchen... and I said, 'Yes!'"
And why in the middle of a hurricane?
"I guess it heightens the senses a little bit, and it makes you think about the most important things in your life," Cowherd said.
The two were still pondering their status as a couple, but Cowherd, a high school teacher, and Gay, a graduate student, said they know one thing for certain: They will not be naming their first child "Isaac."
